The concept of this music video, Say Something by A great Big World, is a depressing one. It is about having to part and say goodbye to something or someone that you love even though it may not be what you want. The video shows a lot of low camera angles giving the viewer the impression of feeling small and helpless. There are many slow zooms as to not change to mood of the video. Also there is a good line of sight from the elderly man to the bed ridden/dying woman.
This is a good start but there are major themes and visuals missing. The slow movement transitions between the shots and unifies them together. Even though different scenes are utilized they are tied together by the movement and the location. The beds are common between all the narrative scenes and the piano is the unifying element for the performance. Everything is shot in a minimalist black space that matches the performance. We are not transported into a new location with the bed shots as much as we are moved into a new feeling or state of mind. Extreme close shots of water in slow motion are used throughout the video which adds to the theme of fluidity.
